Communication Professionals To Present Research Report On Nigeria’s 2015 Presidential Election

Communication professionals under the auspices of Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) have concluded plans to unveil a research report on “Understanding Nigerian Media and Elections Through Research: Analysis of the 2015 Presidential Election Campaign Messages.”

The report will be presented on 4th July 2018 at the Conference Room, School of Transport, Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo by 12.00 noon. The event will be hosted by the School of Communication,   LASU and its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lanre Fagbohun will be the Chief Host while Professor Lai Oso, President, ACSPN will chair the occasion.

The research was funded by Ford Foundation (West Africa) and was undertaken by the Association in collaboration with North Dakota State University (NDSU), ORBICOM/UNESCO and other partners, including the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).

The research investigated the uses of traditional and new media, including newspapers, television, radio, social media, advertising and public relations messages during the presidential campaigns in the 2015 Presidential Election in Nigeria. It also carried out a perception survey of electorates on media campaign effectiveness and influences of hate campaign and messages on voting behaviours during the election.

In like manner, the research examined the level of involvement of local and foreign advertising agencies and public relations consultants in the design and execution of advertising messages during the 2015 general elections in Nigeria and the extent to which contents of political messages and media execution strategies conformed to existing ethical codes of political advertising.

Meanwhile, Prof Rotimi Olatunji, Dean, School of Communication, Lagos State University, and Mr. Ayo Oluwatosin, Group Managing Director, Rosabel/Media Seal Limited were the joint team leaders of the project.

As the event gathers momentum, high profile dignitaries are billed to attend. Some of the dignitaries are the representatives of the Ford Foundation (Research sponsors), Acting Registrar, APCON, President, NIPR, NUJ President, Lagos State Chapter, media organisations, the academic, professional communities among others.
