The Third Annual Conference of the Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria, Immaculate Suites Hotel and Apartments, Abuja. with the theme “Strategic Communication, National Security and Peace Building in Nigeria”.
A Special Panel on “Managing National Security in a Digital Age” chaired by Dapo Olorunyomi, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, Premium Times, held from August 31 – September 1, 2016.
ACSPN Book Series 1 titled “Taking Stock: Nigerian Media and National Challenges” edited by Dr Oluyinka Esan, Reader, University of Winchester, UK with a foreword by Daya Thussu, Professor of International Communication, University of Westminster, UK, was launched.
A Special Session for Aspiring Authors featured and a new executive (2016-2018) was elected with the President, Prof Lai Oso, Deputy President, Prof Umaru Pate, General Secretary, Prof Nosa Owens-Ibie, Vice-Presidents, North Central, Chido Onumah, South South, Dr Majority Oji, South East, Prof Kate Omenugha, Treasurer, Dr Victor Ayedun-Aluma, Diaspora Coordinators, South and East Africa, Dr Adebayo Fayoyin, and United Kingdom and Europe, Dr Oluyinka Esan, retaining their positions.
The conference was attended by representatives of 24 universities, four polytechnics, four ministries, departments and agencies, 13 electronic, print and online media organisations, six communication/media organisations, five regulatory agencies (Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Nigerian Press Council (NPC), National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), three international organisations (UNESCO, ECOWAS/African Union, British Council), and an international non-governmental organisation – African International was supported by the Nigerian Communications Commission, Rosabel Group and Soulsight Limited.
